Kissinger at the White House

While spinning through the channels last week, I came upon a grim discussion featuring Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Brent Scowcroft, talking over old times and offering their advice for the next President with the calm and encouraging guidance of Charlie Rose. Charlie had no doubts that he was at the knee of listening, talking with GREAT MEN.
It was an interview that fit perfectly with the big media stategy that is brainwashing the population to forego any reasonable government until 2009, when a new President will be installed to carry out these old policies.Who believes that a new President will forge policies different than Kissinger and Cambodia, Zbig and Afghanistan, Scowcroft and Iraq I, Rice and Iraq II?
Henry Kissinger is a frequent visitor to the Bush 43 White House, and both President Bush and Vice President Cheney are listening to his advice. Kissinger counsels, according to journalist Bob Woodward, “victory is the only meaningful exit strategy”. Thus, the 83 year old, post-bypass war criminal is able to influence another generation of mass murder. While much of the world awaits Kissinger with manacles, Bush and Cheney, as well as Charlie Rose, welcome his sage kernels of wisdom.
At 83, after the inevitable anoxias of several major surgeries, is it possible that Henry is not fully oriented to time and place? He could be in a time loop, his addled brain still fighting Vietnam, in Nixon’s White House, counselling a firm approach, more bombing, perhaps a collateral attack on a neighboring country that is aiding the “enemy”. Did he tell Nixon also, “victory is the only meaningful exit strategy”? Of course he did. When he tells W how he would handle the “Kurdish problem”, what year is in his mind?
It is truly a mad scene: three men divorced from reality, sitting in their carapacic suits in huge stuffed chairs, talking in a stuttering gibberish language of past failures/future failures - time does not matter. It is a cocoon of power, in which Henry has lived his entire life, and in which Bush/Cheney are wrapping themselves as they sit at Henry’s knee, listening raptly to the soothing, timeless cadence of Henry’s thickly accented postulates of “victory”.
This picture of Henry, George and Dick, mulling over their lethal vision, is the perfect comment on this moment of US political culture. There is no democracy in the US. Elections are meaningless, the accounts of history a sham. Who reads Shawcross, anyway, and who cares about the Cambodia of 1970? There are nations to be bombed today. If Bush/Cheney/Kissinger violate laws, domestic or international, Congress will simply pass new ones that will allow torture, rendition, bombings and illegal invasions of sovereign nations. We are a nation supine before this mad cabal, it is impossible to hyperbolize, the worlds of Orwell/Dick/Thompson have come alive in the White House, in the streets of the US, 2007. -Joe DeRaymond |
