Iraq Summer Campaign Needs Your Support

We have an opportunity to end the war and occupation in Iraq - Let's do it!

Americans Against Escalation in Iraq is conducting a summer campaign to influence the votes of key Congresspeople in order to move the Congress to establish a new Iraq policy by the end of this summer.  A majority of United States voters oppose this war and occupation - now is the time to mobilize to bring the troops home!  

Events and Activism This Summer

Rallies every week: (Just bring yourself; we’ve got signs at every rally!) 

Thurs. 4-5pm in Bethlehem at the corners of 3rd St. and Wyandotte (with LEPOCO)

Fri. noon-1pm in Allentown at the Federal Bldg. on the corners of 5th St. and Hamilton Blvd. (with Rev. Clint Fowler)

Fri. 4-6pm in Allentown across from the Nat. Guard Armory on 15th and Allen St. (with Allentown Armory Activists)

Sat. 10-11am in Easton at the city center, intersection of 3rd and Northampton Streets (with LEPOCO)

July 31st, 7:30pm “Ground Truth” movie Directed by Patricia Foulkrod, this movie presents an open and honest account of the lives of numerous soldiers who have fought in the War In Iraq.  Lehigh Valley Friends Meeting House; Rt. 512, ½ mile north of Rt. 22 on right-hand side, just past the garden shop. 

August 2nd and 16th – Petition Dent Days; anytime from 9am - 4pm at Congressman Dent’s Office in Bethlehem 701 W. Broad St. (upstairs, suite 200) Simply write your own note to Rep.  Dent asking him to vote for a redeployment of US troops out of Iraq, and then take that note to his office.  Don’t forget to sign the sign-in sheet, and feel free to put a note there as well!

August 4th Canvassing -10am across from Rep. Charlie Dent's office we'll be going door-to-door through various neighborhoods trying to distribute yard signs.  Come out and help, or simply come out and get a yard sign for your own yard!  Let's blanket the district with an anti-war message!  (Yard signs are the "Support the Troops - End the War" slogan seen below.)

August 9th, Sen. Specter Town Hall Meeting - 10:30am in Easton at the Forks Township Community Center (500 Zucksville Road, #2 Gym); Face-time with our elected representatives is rare - come out and ask questions about Arlen's votes on the Iraq War, or simply let him know that you want it brought to an end!

Aug. 25th, 26th – 48 hr. Vigil Outside Rep. Dent’s office at 701 W. Broad St., Bethlehem We need a few hearty souls to take shifts in a 48hr. vigil outside of Rep. Dent’s office during this final weekend of the Iraq Summer Campaign. 

Aug. 28th - Take-A-Stand Meeting 7pm at the Steelworkers Union Hall 53 Lehigh St. in Bethlehem Congressman Dent has been invited to come out and meet his constituents who want US troops withdrawn from Iraq. Congressman Dent will be asked to “take a stand” – either with the President and his plans for an endless war, or with his constituents who are ready for the war to be brought to an end. If you make no other event this summer, be at this one! Come force Rep. Dent to Take A Stand! 

What Else Can You Do?   

Put up a yard sign: call or email us to obtain a free yard, window sign, or bumper-sticker (contact info below; the yard and window signs are of the logo seen below).

Volunteer: We need people to canvass neighborhoods, make phone calls, work in the office, write letters to the editor, speak at events and much more!
